Emma Whidden
Hunt Seat Class of 2026
Having grown up in a family involved in both Western and English riding, and with a deep appreciation for the care and connection with the horses, I am excited for the opportunity to be the first in my family to carry this passion into my college years.
The Beginning
I have always had the "horse bug" as my dad grew up competing competitively in the western pleasure and trail in Fort Worth, Texas. My older sister started riding when she was very young and when it was my turn to sit on a horse for the first time there was no going back.
Time in the Saddle
I have always been very serious about my riding and understand that time out of the saddle, taking care of your horse, is just as important as being in the saddle. I am fortunate to be able to ride six days a week and spend the extra time I have caring for my horses or assisting my trainer at the barn. I have been riding for 12 years at Fairfield County Hunt Club in my home state of Connecticut. So far, my dedication to the sport has been reflected in my results with my most notable being Reserve Champion at the National Horse Show in the 14-15 Age Group Equitation with a 3rd place finish on the flat and a 2nd and 5th over fences in 2023.
Academics
Academically, I have maintained a strong unweighted GPA of 3.72 at a private school in the Northeast. I received high honors during both my freshman and sophomore years, including the Head of School distinction. Prior to high school, I was selected to speak at our 8th-grade graduation, representing my class. Outside the classroom, I played JV lacrosse during my freshman and sophomore years, enjoying the teamwork and staying fit for riding. In college, I plan to pursue nursing or psychology, as professionals in these fields have made a significant impact on my life, inspiring me to do the same for others.
